Charlie Kirk , 31, was shot and killed in cold blood on Wednesday during a speech at Utah Valley University. His death comes less than two months after a man ambushed and slaughtered Minnesota House of Representatives Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband at their home.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox called Kirk's Sept. 10 death a political assassination.

By and large, we’ve forgotten about the Hortmans’ shooting, and we don’t even talk about the two Trump assassination attempts that much.

We forget.

When we forget, we ignore the devastating consequences of our actions. We brush aside tragedy, wait for it to happen again, and then shrug when it does.
