Prized around Baton Rouge for its European antiques, vintage furniture and decor, Circa 1857 might soon offer more than just antiques. Co-owner Garrett J. Kemp has managed the business since 2016, and now, he wants to reinvent retail.

Before the end of the year, Kemp is hoping to open a speakeasy lounge, as long as permits and zoning submissions go through as expected.

"We really wanted to figure out a way, 'How do we bring in more people back toward a traditional retail setting?,'" Kemp said.

For Kemp and his husband, Luke Lognion, a speakeasy lounge is the answer.

An opening date is not yet official because Kemp is currently acquiring the proper permits, so it's still a work in progress, he said. Just last week, Kemp submitted for the rezoning, and it'll be seen by the zoning commi
