LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - As the country witnessed the tragedy and immense fallout of the September 11th attack, thousands of flights were diverted outside the United States.
Thirty-eight of those aircrafts landed in the tiny town of Gander, Canada. It’s where thousands of passengers would feel boundless generosity.
Including a Lincoln woman who was on one of those planes.
Twenty-four years ago today, Elizabeth Katt, a member of the United States Air Force, was en route from Frankfurt, Germany, to Atlanta for a training mission.
Katt recalled that 7 hours into her flight, the pilot announced that the plane would be diverted due to a mechanical issue.
She didn’t understand at the time, but knew in her heart something much bigger was happening.
