Cybercriminals are capitalizing on America's precarious labor market, with jobseekers being taken advantage of in record numbers in 2025.
According to a new report from McAfee, the results of which were shared with Newsweek , job scams grew more than 1,000 percent between May and late July 2025, making them the fastest-growing fraud category McAfee has tracked over this period.
In a survey conducted by the software company in May, nearly one in three Americans (31 percent) said they had received a fraudulent job offer by text, and 45 percent report they've personally experienced a bogus job search or know someone who has.
