Hollywood producer David Permut has a track record of backing notable biopics like "Rustin" and "Hacksaw Ridge," as well as successful big-screen blockbusters such as "Face/Off." However, the part-time Palm Springs resident's latest project, "Twinless," may be his boldest yet.
Permut said he was drawn to its director and co-star James Sweeney — a writer, director, and actor — after watching his comedy film "Straight Up" at the 2020 Palm Springs International Film Festival . The film was about a young gay man (Sweeney) who struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorder and befriends a woman with her own fears and insecurities.
