President Donald Trump says he’ll posthumously award conservative activist and ally Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Trump said Thursday he's shocked by the horror of Kirk’s assassination on a Utah university campus where Kirk was speaking a day earlier.
Associated Press reporter Eric Tucker says law enforcement officials said the sniper who assassinated Kirk has not been identified and is believed to have jumped off a roof and fled into a neighborhood after firing one shot.
“They say they don't actually know the person's identity, but they are reviewing video footage and they have tracked the shooter's movements through the college campus where Kirk was killed in the run-up to the assassination,” Tucker said.
Officials say nearby woods where a high-powered rifle was found have been secured.
“In the woods nearby, law enforcement officials have recovered a high-powered rifle. That they are continuing to analyze and review as they try to track down this person,” Tucker said.
