Poached fish collected as evidence.
Fish caught illegally at Nasby Dam.

Last weekend, as two Indiana Conservation Officers were on a routine check at Nasby Dam, they spotted a bucket of fish that had been deserted. They searched the area and found nobody.

But they did locate a vehicle. So the officers took up positions in the bushes and waited until four “subjects” returned to the vehicle “with buckets full of fish,” the Indiana Department of Natural Resources explained in a news release.

In the buckets were 31 black bass (largemouth and/or smallmouth), 25 rock bass, 31 logperch, three bluegill, one rainbow darter "and hundreds of other [non-game] fish."

The IDNR added that the subjects used a cast net and were “keeping everything that they caught.” Three of them did not possess valid fishing licenses.

All four subjects were arrested and cited. Other details were withheld pending an investigation.

Nasby Dam is within the Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area in Northern Indiana.
