RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Dozens of people came together Thursday to honor the victims who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11 at the Raleigh National Cemetery.
They spent the morning cleaning the headstones of soldiers.
"My husband being a veteran and having served and all my family having served through major conflicts — it has really just touched my heart that it's just one little way to give back," said Jennifer Holland. She came out to the cemetery with her husband.
Volunteers say this day is even more special as the country remembers the 9/11 attacks.
"It's a day when ordinary Americans rose to a call, unexpected, tragedy struck, and they rallied, and they came to each other's aid," said John Hanken with Arch Capital Group, one of the companies that put on the event.
