President Donald Trump said Thursday that he plans to award Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously.

Kirk, a close ally of the president, was assassinated on Wednesday during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. Trump spoke briefly about the prominent conservative activist during his opening remarks at Thursday's 9/11 memorial service at the Pentagon in Virginia.
