Don Johnson, the chief financial officer of the East Baton Rouge Parish parks and recreation agency, resigned this week, a little over a year after joining BREC, an official said.

Janet Simmons, interim superintendent for BREC, said that Johnson notified her by email that he was resigning, with his last official day being Sept. 19.

Simmons said that Johnson is no longer coming into the office, which she noted is a common policy for employees departing from financial roles.

Simmons said that, going forward, "I'm confident that the finance team has all the ability to handle everything with the audit, the budget and the ongoing, day-to-day operations."

Johnson joined BREC in April 2024.
