It was a win, a loss and a tie for the respective Mt. Hope High School sports squads who played games Wednesday, Sept. 10, results that included the fourth consecutive win for the Huskies in girls' volleyball to start the 2025 season.
Division II-Mt. Hope stepped up in class and stepped up its effort in the end as the locals rallied to defeat Division I-Portsmouth on the road by a 3-2 count. The Huskies dropped the first two sets, 25-10 and 25-20, before claiming the last three by the scores of 25-19, 25-21 and 15-11.
Gianna Lunney had nine kills, eight assists and seven digs to pace Mt. Hope. Natasha Lightfoot had four kills and a block up front. Sarah Wilcox had a team-best 17 digs, served for two aces and added four kills as well.
