A Nottingham hospital trust’s A&E department is under strain due to an extra 65 “medically fit” patients not being sent home compared to this time last year.

Nottingham University Hospitals Trust ( NUH ) executives met today (September 11) in a board meeting where the trust’s operational performance was discussed.

NUH runs Queen’s Medical Centre and City Hospital .

The board heard how the issue of poorer patient “flow” was “significantly” affecting the emergency department’s performance – a problem hospital trusts across the country are facing.

Patient flow refers to the movement of patients through a hospital, from admittance to discharge.
