CARBONDALE, Ill. (WSIL) -- Many came out to Southern Illinois University Carbondale to honor and remember the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks with a special workout session on Thursday morning.
The 9/11 Saluki Stair Climb took place at SIU’s Banterra Center and featured a simulated 110-floor stair climb, symbolizing the World Trade Center's twin towers.
An alternative option for participants was a 2-mile walk around the Banterra Center concourse, representing the evacuation from Ground Zero.
SIU Air Force and Army ROTC cadets annually conduct this event to honor first responders, military personnel, and civilians affected by the 9/11 attacks and the War on Terror.
Participants also received commemorative T-shirts, and food and drinks were available from Cold Blooded Coffee and D
