CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A man has been sentenced to federal prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking-related charges.
Michael Thomas Martin, 54, of Beaufort County, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, the U.S. Attorney’s Office says.
Evidence that was presented in court revealed that he received multiple pounds of meth through the mail with shipments originating with a Mexican cartel. It moved from Tucson to Phoenix before it reached Martin in South Carolina, according to U.S. Attorney’s Office spokesperson Veronica Hill.
He used sophisticated packing methods to send and receive the drugs to avoid detection.
