When Josh Shapiro’s home was firebombed this summer, I wrote this in a column for the Daily Times :
“When I heard that the Pennsylvania Governor’s Residence had been firebombed, my first reaction was ‘First night of Passover. Jewish Governor. Hate Crime.’
“My second thought was ‘That poor family. Four kids. Thank God they’re safe.’ ”
At no point did I mentally add “I hate Josh Shapiro’s politics, but … .” And I certainly didn’t say “Well that’s karma.”
Sadly, some people expressed exactly those two emotions.
