Mason Hriczov is big, raw, and made a good first impression.
That was enough for the Kitchener Rangers, who signed the 16-year-old New Jersey native to a standard player agreement Wednesday night.
His addition means the Blueshirts now have four goalies under contract, with San Jose Sharks prospect Christian Kirsch, Jason Schaubel and Owen Edwards also in the mix.
“He’s got a little bit of everything,” said Rangers general manager Mike McKenzie. “He’s big but he moves really well and is athletic and he’s competitive.”
The Rangers selected Hriczov (pronounced Ritz-off) in the 13th round of this year’s Ontario Hockey League draft on the advice of several scouts and goalie coach Jordan DeKort.
