MANISTEE, MI – A Northern Michigan beach town is looking to make its award-winning beaches even better.

The city of Manistee has unveiled a $16 million masterplan for upgrades across four beaches, including three on Lake Michigan.

Of the four parks, the one with the longest list of upgrades is First Street Beach/Douglas Beach. It’s a popular, award-winning spot that already has an abundance of amenities . It was awarded the title of “ Best Beach in Michigan ” by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice awards in both 2024 and 2025.
