These days, the Victorian Liberal Party seems to run at two speeds – a slow-motion car crash, and a car crash playing out at normal speed.
This week’s collision saw the departure of the state director, Stuart Smith . He resigned after disclosure in The Australian that he joked in a chat group that Liberal MP Bev McArthur had dementia. Truly. McArthur told The Age she could take it . “I’m a big girl,” she said.
All just before the party’s annual state council this weekend, a shindig at Moonee Valley Racecourse (a cost-cutting measure in lieu of their favoured venue at Jeff’s Shed) which provides the embattled party an opportunity for further self-sabotage and/or a chance to get its proverbial act together before the state election in November next year.
