In the late 1920s, Mary Kay Kramer’s paternal grandfather rented a home in Detroit from a person of German heritage. When he later met “the woman of his dreams,” according to Kramer, that landlord gave him a vase as a wedding gift in the 1930s. “The landlord liked them,” she explained to DuMouchelles expert James Flannery at a recent appraisal session held at the downtown auction house and gallery.
