The University of Mississippi has fired an employee over a social media post made following the shooting death of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk on Wednesday, Sept. 10.

Ole Miss Chancellor Glenn F. Boyce released a statement on Thursday, Sept. 11, stating that an unnamed employee has been terminated after re-sharing "hurtful, insensitive comments on social media" after Kirk was murdered.

The Turning Point USA founder was shot and killed while speaking at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, about 12:20 p.m. local time Wednesday, Sept. 10. He received medical care and died at a hospital hours later.
