PORTLAND, Maine — Portland police issued a new call for tips from the public on Wednesday in connection to an eight-year-old unsolved homicide in the city.

Police are investigating the homicide of Sunao "Tom" Yamada, who was found dead near Temple and Federal Streets on Sept. 10, 2017.

Investigators are asking anyone who sent in tips the past to submit them again, because police believe there is someone in the community who knows who is responsible for Yamada's death.

Police said someone called 911 around 4:20 a.m. Sunday, notifying them of a dead body on Temple Street across from One City Center. Police believe Yamada had been killed about an hour earlier. At the time, nearly all downtown businesses are closed in the post-Labor Day wind-down from tourist season.
