Flags lowered to half-staff Thursday in remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the United States should remain lowered through sunset Sunday at the direction of Indiana Gov. Mike Braun.

The Republican chief executive ordered flags continue to be flown at half-staff at all state facilities to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a native of Chicago's northwest suburbs who was shot and killed Wednesday at a Utah college campus.

Republican President Donald Trump similarly has directed all flags at federal properties fly only at half-staff through Sunday.

The governor also is urging all Indiana businesses and residents to choose to lower their flags during the period.
