Portland police identified the 51-year-old man hit and killed by a driver on Interstate 5 after fleeing police Saturday night as Jahi Moody of Portland.

They also disclosed details about the moments before Moody allegedly crashed his car, ditched it and bolted across interstate traffic on foot.

Terri Wallo Strauss, a spokesperson with the Police Bureau , said two sergeants in a patrol car spotted Moody speeding near North Lombard Street and Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Moody then began weaving in and out of cars, and Wallo Strauss said he nearly struck two pedestrians. As Moody turned onto North Russet Street, one of the sergeants flipped on the emergency siren and lights to try to stop Moody for reckless driving.
