FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AZFamily) — Rising costs of fire insurance are an issue across the West. Some communities up in Arizona’s high country are seeing their rates triple or are being dropped altogether.

The Coconino County supervisors are hosting a series of workshops and bringing the insurance company to the table to find a solution.

Nestled in the heart of the largest continuous ponderosa pine forest in the world, Flagstaff is a beautiful place to call home. However, Coconino supervisor Patrice Horstman said living here doesn’t come without risk.

“This is sadly so that we’re in the top 4% in the country of wildfire risks,” she said.

Horstman said this is one of the reasons for skyrocketing insurance rates. Now it’s hurting the community.

“Homeowner insurance costs are going up,” she said
