MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) - First responders across Michiana gathered for ceremonies honoring those lost during the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

St. Joseph County police took part in a stair climbing Thursday at Penn High School. They paid respects to their brothers and sisters who answered the call 24 years ago.

On that faithful day, New York firefighters took the journey 110 stories up the World Trade Center, in an effort to save lives.

On that day 343 firefighters made the ultimate sacrifice.

St. Joseph County police officers participated in an honorary stair climbing, symbolizing the journey of the New York City firefighters.

They also stopped for two moments of silence, symbolizing the planes that struck the twin towers.
