New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe has a small tear in the labrum of his left shoulder, but manager Aaron Boone told reporters Thursday that he expects him to be able to play through it.
Volpe, who received a cortisone shot after the All-Star break and another on Wednesday, re-aggravated the injury during Sunday's game and sat out Wednesday for the second time in a week.
Boone said Wednesday that Volpe was in "day-to-day mode." On Thursday, the manager said he doesn't think Volpe will need to be put on the injured list and will probably have an MRI after the season.
The small tear was first discovered in May.
"I don't think it's been a major factor in his performance or his ability to swing the bat," Boone said Thursday.
