VICTORIA COUNTY, Texas — A 10-year-old boy was arrested Thursday after he made a fake gun report at his elementary school, according to the Victoria County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said they got a report that a student had a gun on the campus of Vickers Elementary School.

They investigated the report, but after a thorough search, no weapon was found.

Authorities said the boy later told them that he made the claim "as a joke" and there was no gun.

The student was arrested for making a false report that led to an emergency response, the VCSO said. He was taken to the juvenile detention center.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
