RICHMOND, Ky. — The last of over 68,000 nerve agent rocket warheads has been destroyed at the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant.

The warheads, drained of GB— also known as sarin —and VX, were processed in a pair of static detonation chambers.

“Our dedicated workforce overcame numerous technical challenges to safely complete the destruction of the rocket warheads,” said Joe Curcio, Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass project manager. “Our attention has now turned to preparing for demolition of the facilities used to process the warheads.”

The last M55 rocket filled with GB was drained and destroyed on July 7, 2023, and it marked the completion of the destruction of the chemical weapons stockpile in Kentucky. After they were drained, the rocket warheads were contained and stored
