SCITAUTE, R.I. (WLNE) — The first of a series of 9/11 memorials held in Rhode Island on Thursday was at Rhode Island State Police Headquarters as police marked off the times when each hijacked plane crashed to remember the victims.

A crowd gathered to mark the 24th anniversary of the attack.

“Today we remember nearly 3,000 innocent lives in the tablets of our hearts,” Pastor Christopher Abhulume of King’s Tabernacle Church said.

Rhode Island State Troopers read off the names of the nine Rhode Islanders who were killed.

The ceremony also honored Americans killed in the War on Terror, as well as other 9/11 victims with connections to the state.

Four moments of silence throughout represented the moment the four hijacked planes crashed that morning.
