Texas HB 5066 authorized the PUC to work with ERCOT to develop 3 major transmission lines to extend to the far west Delaware Basin to provide future power demands to the oil and gas companies and the planned data centers. The cost of the lines is going to be 33 billion dollars. The transmission line companies will amortize that cost thru increased electric bills to all of the state wide consumers of electricity.
Instead of spending 33 billion to construct the lines for the future demand then why not build natural gas fired power plants in the West Texas region that will utilize the millions of MCF of gas that O&G companies are currently flaring to the atmosphere on a daily basis.
