ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WCBD) -- South Carolina State University in Orangeburg implemented additional safety protocols on Thursday amid reported threats at several historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).

Students, employees, and visitors will now be asked by security personnel to show photo ID when on campus as a precautionary measure, according to the university.

Spokesperson Sam Watson Watson said the school had not received any direct threats and that SC State evaluates its safety protocols on a "fairly frequent basis" but particularly after major national incidents.
