With a 5-4 vote, it was agreed to bump the salaries of the next Norfolk County mayor and councillors based on a ratio of what’s paid to a Member of Provincial Parliament.

At a council-in-committee meeting on Tuesday, councillors passed a motion that the mayor’s remuneration be set at 75 per cent of an MPP’s salary. That would increase the mayor’s salary from the current $93,139 to $118,013.

The committee also agreed that the pay for councillors would be 50 per cent of that earned by the mayor. Councillors currently earn $40,830 a year. The increase will bring that up to $59,006.
