LENEXA, Kan. — The Lenexa Police Department used a tool they call the "grappler" to stop a suspect from speeding off in a vehicle last month.

FOX 4's Regan Porter explains how this tool works at Lenexa Police Headquarters, off Renner and Prairie Star Parkway.

Lenexa police shared video of the grappler vehicle restraint system in action.

"The grappler has been a game changer for us, and you're seeing it increase across law enforcement," Officer Danny Chavez said.

Chavez said, last month, officers were patrolling near 95th and Interstate 35 at about midnight, when they attempted to pull over a driver for multiple traffic violations. That's when 33-year-old Joshua Armenta sped off.
