A huge police presence swarmed the University of Massachusetts in Boston after gunshots were reportedly heard on campus.

Students and staff were reportedly seen running for their lives after hearing gunshots at the Dorchester campus, according to the Boston Police Department. The university, known as UMass, sent out alerts to students that there was a 'public safety threat' ongoing.

The incident reportedly took place near a residence hall in the school's East Building after gunfire was reported at 3.45pm local time near Morrissey Boulevard. SWAT teams swarmed the dorm as people were urged to avoid the area. 22:29 Joe Smith
