More than a century later, national parks and monuments continue to do just that, boasting everything from impressive natural wonders to the ruins of past inhabitants

Maybe it's been a while since you explored them. But now is a great time to get out there and make friends with nature, because a free park admission day is happening on Saturday, Sept. 27, in honor of National Public Lands Day .
