MADISON (WKOW) — Assembly Bill 308, which aims to block the use of state or local funds for health care for individuals not lawfully in the U.S., passed through the State Assembly Thursday.

Republicans said the bill was straightforward.

"If you're not here legally, it's really that simple: you don't get the benefits of those who are here legally by taking their tax dollars," said Rep. Brent Jacobson (R-Mosinee).

Republicans also criticized Democrats for what they said was conflicting information. Some Democrats acknowledged undocumented immigrants are not eligible for BadgerCare, while others emphasized health care as a fundamental human right.
