A 40-year-old man was sentenced to a life sentence for the murder of Amanda Keewatin on Okanese First Nation.

James Stonechild pleaded guilty to the offence and was sentenced on Wednesday at Regina’s Court of King’s Bench.

Stonechild was also given no chance of parole for 10 years, a lifetime firearm prohibition, and was subjected to a DNA order.

According to an RCMP news release, File Hills Police Service was responding to a report about an injured person at a home on Okanese in September 2024.
