LAFAYETTE, La, (KLFY) -- Red Lerille was honored during the 24th commemoration of 9/11 in Lafayette.

Lafayette Parish Mayor-President Monique Boulet issued a proclamation recognizing Red Lerille for his commitment to the community and his dedication to uplifting Acadiana.

"Having the pastors, having prayer. All of that came together in a really beautiful way in celebration of a man that really embodied so much of that in our community. So happy to be here, honored," said Mayor Boulet.

Red Lerille was on a motorcycle trip in New York during the 9/11 attacks, and his son Mark Lerille recalled the conversation they had as the events unfolded.
