The New Mexico Department of Health issued an order to expand access to updated COVID-19 vaccines.

Healthcare providers and pharmacists will be able to vaccinate anyone six months and older without requiring individual prescriptions. The standing order was issued on Thursday, Sept. 11.

The order was issued to address barriers that prevented some New Mexicans from receiving the updated vaccine, according to NMDOH. This was due to some health care providers and pharmacists being hesitant to vaccinate certain groups without formal prescription backup.
