EUGENE, Ore. - Emergency responders came together this morning at Autzen Stadium for a significant event commemorating the events of September 11, 2001.

The annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb saw participants honoring those who lost their lives that day. Participants climbed the equivalent of 110 stories, matching the height of the fallen Twin Towers. Each climber carried a badge with the name and photograph of a fallen first responder, symbolizing their climb alongside a hero.

"This is their second week of an 11-week fire academy for entry level firefighter so we brought them here today to show them the importance of the sense of community of being a firefighter and to remember that tragic day and to put themselves in that position of climbing up the stairs," said Nathan Svejcar, training
