CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. -- The Chelan County Sheriff's Office is warning people about a scam circling around targeting local residents.
Several reports have come in about scammers claiming to work for the Sheriff's Office, using the names of known officials to try and appear legitimate.
The scammer claims that the person has failed to appear for jury duty and now has a warrant for their arrest. The scammer then pressures the victim to make an immediate payment, often through a Bitcoin machine.
The Sheriff's Office says it will never demand payment or request sensitive personal information over the phone.
