LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Gov. Jim Pillen’s administration will not be participating in the Nebraska Legislature Urban Affairs Committee’s upcoming interim study that will examine the potential building code issues related to the proposed McCook ICE detention facility .

Director of the Governor’s Policy Research Office, Kenny Zoeller, cited committee jurisdiction issues in a letter to chair of the committee, Sen. Terrell McKinney.

“The Urban Affairs Committee does not have proper jurisdiction nor the subject matter expertise to examine these issues and the reasons stated in your Sept. 2, 2025, letter further prove this point,” Zoeller wrote.

Zoeller stated that the Jail Standards Board was created by legislation originating from the Judiciary Committee, meaning the Judiciary Committee
