LAMPASAS COUNTY, Texas — A stray cat near Lometa tested positive for rabies, according to the Lampasas County Sheriff's Office.
The cat was found in the 400 block of CR 2509 near U.S. 183 North, north of Lometa, sparking officials to ask the public to take precautions and be vigilant.
The Sheriff's Office encourages Central Texans to contact the Lampasas County Sheriff's Office Animal Control or the Texas Game Wardens if they see animals exhibiting strange behavior, including but not limited to the following:
Walking strangely
Stumbling
Drooling
Sudden and unusual spontaneous changes in behavior
Officials say unprovoked attacks could also be a sign of rabies, and that wild animals being active during the day could be a sign they are looking for food, not a sign of rabies.
