U.S. Steel has brought some of its Clairton coke batteries back after a deadly explosion last month.

U. S. Steel’s Clairton Plant, which supplies coke to Gary Works in Northwest Indiana, has resumed full production at Batteries #19 and #20 at Mon Valley Works after the deadly explosion last month that killed two workers and wounded more than 10. The plant, which took over coke production from Gary Works when its coke battery closed there in 2015, can produce 4.7 million tons a year of coke with its nine batteries.

The steelmaker placed the #13 and #14 coke batteries at the steel mill outside Pittsburgh on hot idle. It had removed the coke to inspect for damage and see if the damage can be repaired.
