NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) -- Newport News Public Schools said a teacher has been placed on administrative leave following a post on the Charlie Kirk assassination.

The teacher allegedly posted to Facebook after the shooting death of the conservative activist saying, "I hope he suffered through all of it."

The teacher was put on leave while Newport News Public Schools conducts an investigation.

The statement from the school division read:

The School Board expects all NNPS employees to conduct themselves in a professional, courteous, and respectful manner at all times.
