LITTLE ITALY, Manhattan (PIX11) -- The 99th San Gennaro Festival is underway in Little Italy in Lower Manhattan. That means live music, zeppole, sausage, peppers, and games.
The feast runs until September 21st on Mulberry Street between Canal and Houston Streets. It opens at 11 a.m. and shuts down nightly at 10 p.m.
Mario Capparelli, a festival board member, told PIX11 News, "The feast is about our patron saint of Naples, San Gennaro. In 1926, they came here, a bunch of immigrants from Naples, they started a block party, and this is what the block party changed into."
Ernest Lepore, the owner of Ferrara's Restaurant on Grand Street, said the feast is "great for the business and it's great for the neighborhood, especially since COVID, it makes people remember Little Italy is still here,
