STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — As the sun slowly set behind the Manhattan skyline and its light cast long shadows over the Postcards 9/11 memorial in St. George, silence fell over the crowd except for the whisper of names carried on the wind. Here, where grief meets gratitude, a community gathered once more to remember the day the sky fell, and the world stood still.

Hundreds of family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers and acquaintances came together on Staten Island Thursday evening to remember the more than 250 Staten Islanders who were lost to terrorist attacks 24 years ago.
