TYLER, Texas — Students, staff and community members gathered Thursday at Tyler ISD's Bryan C. Jack Elementary for Patriot Day -- a day to remember the lives lost in the 9/11 terror attacks.
Jack Elementary is named after Bryan Jack, a Tyler ISD graduate who was onboard the passenger plane that crashed into the Pentagon.
Prior to his death, Jack had worked for the Department of Defense.
"Our children are able to honor his legacy and honor our country," Jessi Jackson, a parent whose child attends Jack Elementary, said. "Getting to do this Patriot Day and having the freedom to be able to do this Patriot Day, having our first responders here, it's just so rewarding in and of itself. The fact that us parents get to come in and watch and participate is truly a blessing for our community."
