MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho — A man who lost his daughter to suicide more than a decade ago has created a community support group to try to address the stigma around suicide in a rural Idaho community.
The state of Idaho is among the top ten for suicide deaths. Since 2019, records from the Elmore County Coroner show that five teens aged 12-18 have died by suicide. The county has a population of about 30,000 residents.
One of those teens was La’Nickolas Williams, who went by Nick. He passed at the age of 13 in October of 2024. After his death, several parents in the Mountain Home School District reached out to KTVB with concerns the community had about needing more or better mental health resources for teens.
Several students and parents spoke at the podium about preventing future tragedies.
