KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The Kanawha County Commission is taking a major step to combat hunger in the area.

On Thursday night, 10 food banks in the county received a $5,000 check from the commission.

Commissioner Lance Wheeler said the money can bring a lot of good to people in Kanawha County.

“I mean, when we talk about five thousand dollars, I know it goes as far as it can,” Wheeler said. “But how excited these directors and volunteers are to hear that they’re receiving five thousand means that we need to give them more help. This is just the start. We’ll continue to look what the county commission can do. However, this is a great start, and I think this is going to really help a lot of people here in Kanawha County.”
